Ajaz Karim, 70, worked at Christ’s Hospital School between 1983 and 1993 and abused a female pupil, who is now in her 40’s, when she was aged between 12 and 13.
Karim was jailed for 21 months on Friday 13 December at Lewes Crown Court following a four-day trial in which he pleaded not guilty.
Detective Constable Rebecca Wilde, of Sussex Police’s Complex Abuse Unit, said: “Ajaz Karim abused the trust of his victim as a school coach…ultimately it was thanks to her courage that we were able to secure Karim’s jail sentence”
David Hawkins, a specialist in sexual abuse compensation law with Biscoes Solicitors said ”Karim’s conviction comes on top of his previous convictions for sexually abusing six girls at Christ’s Hospital school between 1985 and 1993 for which he was imprisoned for 10 years in 2018. He is clearly a prolific offender, who abused his position of trust, and there may well be more victims of Karim’s abuse who have not yet come forward. I would urge anyone affected by this individual’s actions to speak to Sussex Police who will listen to you. You can also speak to us, in complete confidence, and we can advise you as to your legal rights.”
