Carl Douglas Button, of Waterlooville, Hampshire, used his position as a Housing Officer to enter a woman's home and sexually assault her.  The woman, in her 50’s, was subjected to a “serious and sustained attack” which Police say left her with “considerable psychological trauma”.

Following a trial at Reading Crown Court, Button was convicted of three counts of sexual assault and one county of assault by penetration.  He is due to be sentenced in June.

Detective Constable Laura Joyce, of Thames Valley Police said: “I cannot praise the bravery of the victim in this case enough as well as her commitment to supporting the case in court.  I am pleased that Carl Button has been convicted for his horrendous crimes, which was a terrible abuse of his position of trust.  I hope this case shows that we will continue to investigate offenders such as Button, and bring them to court to face justice.

David Hawkins, a specialist in Abuse Compensation Law with Biscoes Solicitors said “Using his position as a Housing Officer was an awful abuse of Button’s position of trust and his victim showed immense courage in coming forward to ensure nobody else can be harmed by him in this way.”  Biscoes has a great deal of experience in helping victims of adult and child sexual abuse so if you or a loved one have been affected by this, please contact our team, who will advise you as to your legal rights.
