Michelle Hurst
Michelle is a Deputy Head of the Care and Adoption Department and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and has specialised in child care and adoption law since 2013 and has vast experience in this area, having advised parents, family members and Court appointed Children’s Guardians.
Michelle is passionate about providing assistance to those who find themselves involved in these types of proceedings. She has experience of cases including non-accidental injuries ranging from fractures to shaken baby syndrome. She is able to balance a friendly and personable approach with sensible advice and strong advocacy skills.
Michelle is confident in representing clients at court, whether this is on behalf of parents, children instructing her directly or children being represented through their Children’s Guardian.
Michelle has shown herself able to respond to emergency situations in a timely and professional way and in addition to this Michelle genuinely cares about her clients and goes the extra mile to make sure their cases are handled thoroughly and conscientiously.
Michelle can advise on:
- Any issue where the Local Authority is involved with a child, whether at pre-proceedings stage or court proceedings
- Emergency applications by the Local Authority
- Family members who are not directly involved in proceedings but seek to challenge an assessment of them

Michelle is an avid reader, a keen cook, and is passionate about rugby, especially her home team, Northampton Saints. She also enjoys watching as much live stand-up comedy as she can.

Michelle is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and has specialised in childcare and adoption law since 2013. She has extensive experience in this area, having advised parents, family members and court-appointed Children’s Guardians in court proceedings and pre-proceedings involvement.
From an early age Michelle realised that she had a passion for ensuring that everyone had access to the same opportunities, without reference to their race, religion, background, sexual orientation, gender, disability, neuro divergence or any other characteristic. She has been a champion for those who are under-represented throughout her adult life and this led to her being appointed Lead for Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity for Biscoes in September 2024.
Michelle was delighted to be asked to take on the DEI lead role at Biscoes; The firm is committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace and ensuring that we offer a safe space for all staff and clients alike. Michelle will work alongside senior leadership to develop and implement strategies which promote diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of Biscoes’ operations.
At the core of Michelle’s DEI role is a strong belief that diversity drives innovation, better outcomes for our clients, and a more just, equitable and effective legal profession. Her role will involve developing and delivering training, mentoring initiatives and community engagement opportunities which champion diversity in law.
