Care Leavers Covenant

Here at Biscoes we chose to mark National Care Leavers Week in October by making a statement, a promise.
We know that leaving care can be a frightening and unsettling time for young people. They are often faced with having to move home, live independently and find their own way in the world at 18 years old. Not forgetting of course that these young people have undoubtedly suffered much trauma and disruption in their young lives.
At Biscoes we have an award winning team of lawyers who specialise in working with families who are subject to care proceedings, as such we understand only too well the difficulties that care leavers can face and the challenges that lie ahead for them. We want to help improve outcomes and help care leavers fulfil their potential and that is why today we are delighted to announce that we have signed up to the Care Leavers Covenant and in particular have signed the Care Leaver Friendly Employer Charter.
What does this mean? We will actively work with the Covenant team to promote appropriate opportunities to the care leaver community. We have identified a Special Point of Contact in Biscoes who care leavers can contact for guidance, before, during and after their application process. We offer a guaranteed interview, and constructive feedback, to any applicants who identify as care experienced and who meet the minimum criteria for the role. We will be assigning a workplace buddy for any care leaver employees. Finally, we understand that our care leaver employees will potentially face challenges in their personal lives, with a high level of disruption, we undertake to approach these with compassion and empathy.
We look forward to working with the Care Leavers Covenant and care leavers in the future. Making a difference to just one young person will be a step in the right direction.
